Emario Sampath Welgampola has practised law across three Commonwealth countries since 1989. He is a graduate of the University of Nottingham, England where he completed his legal studies with a Master’s Degree in Law. He was admitted as a Legal Practitioner in Australia in 2001.
Over the years he has been a Practitioner, Academic, Mediator and Arbitrator. He proudly acknowledges that his longest and most fulfilling professional stint has been in serving the people of Southeast Queensland as a Family Law practitioner for over the last two decades.
With his empathic approach coupled with an unruffled demeanour, Emario brings a calmness and stability that defuses tension and conflict that underlies a majority of the family law disputes that he comes across.
Emario is a passionate advocate of resolving matters through amicable means and keeping client costs within manageable limits by engaging early with the other party’s legal representatives in purposeful negotiations.
A majority of his work relates to Property settlements, Parenting matters, Binding Financial Agreements, Binding Child Support Agreements and Domestic and Family Violence matters. He is also a nationally accredited Arbitrator and Mediator of Family Law disputes.
Emario has presented papers at several international conferences and was invited recently to present at the Annual Conference of the Fijian Law Society on similarities in the Family Law systems of Australia and Fiji.
Away from the law, Emario is an avid reader and a keen follower of Cricket, NRL and more recently AFL. He lives locally and has a deep attachment to the growth of the area and local community.
