What conveyancing actually covers
Everything between a signed contract and the title being in your name.
Conveyancing is the process of transferring legal ownership of land. It starts with the contract, which we review and, where you have not signed, negotiate. It runs through the conditional period, where finance, building and pest and any special conditions each have their own date and their own notice.
It takes in the searches that reveal what the title actually carries, the adjustments that split rates and levies fairly between you and the other side, transfer duty, and the discharge or registration of a mortgage. It ends at settlement, when money and title change hands at the same moment, and with the registration that puts your name on the title. In Queensland this work is reserved to law practices, so whoever does it is working under a solicitor.
